The Salings is a small rural civil parish in the district of Braintree, in north Essex, England, comprising the closely linked villages of Great Saling and Little Saling. The landscape is typical Essex countryside - rolling arable fields, hedgerows and lanes - popular with walkers and horse riders, and lying within easy reach of larger towns for shopping and rail links.
The settlements have medieval roots and retain a quiet village character; farming has long dominated the local economy while many residents now commute to nearby centres. There are also visible reminders of the 20th century in the area, including the site of a wartime airfield near Great Saling, and a small, active community life centred on village halls and local events rather than high streets or industry.
