The area around Blackmore, Hook End and Wyatts Green lies a few miles north of Brentwood in Essex, England and retains a distinctly rural, village character. Blackmore has a traditional village green and a medieval parish church, with narrow lanes opening onto farmland and patches of heath; the parish contains a number of historic buildings and feels very much part of the Green Belt countryside rather than suburban sprawl.
Community life is centred on village halls, pubs, clubs and seasonal fetes, while the local economy is a mix of small-scale farming, local services and commuters. Hook End is perhaps best known locally for a converted manor that became a recording studio, giving the parish an unexpected cultural footnote, and many residents travel into Brentwood or London for work.
