Margaret Roding is a small rural village and civil parish in the district of Uttlesford in Essex, one of the cluster known as the Rodings along the River Roding. Set in rolling arable countryside with hedgerows, narrow lanes and public footpaths, it retains a dispersed pattern of farms and timber‑framed cottages and lies within easy reach of market towns such as Saffron Walden and Chelmsford.
The village has a historic parish church dedicated to St Margaret and a number of listed buildings that reflect medieval and post‑medieval roots; its story is typical of the long‑established agricultural landscape of the Rodings. Today the community is small and largely farming‑ and residential‑based, with many people travelling to nearby towns for work and services, while walkers and those interested in rural heritage appreciate the quiet lanes, old cottages and riverside setting.
