Oxenhall is a small, quietly rural community in the northern part of the Forest of Dean district of Gloucestershire, set in rolling farmland a short drive from market towns such as Newent and the literary landscape around Dymock. Although administratively in the forest district, it sits outside the heavily wooded heart of the Forest of Dean, characterised instead by hedgerowed fields, scattered farms and a handful of historic buildings that hint at medieval origins.
The local economy remains largely agricultural with a mix of smallholdings and residents who commute to larger centres, and the area attracts walkers and country-lovers thanks to nearby woodlands and the broader Wye Valley countryside. Social life is low-key and community-focused, centred on village gatherings and preservation of traditional buildings and lanes rather than any large commercial activity.
