Chepstow in Monmouthshire sits at the dramatic meeting of the River Wye and the Severn Estuary, with wooded cliffs of the Wye Valley AONB rising behind the town. Its border location, just inside Wales and close to England, gives it a distinctive riverside character and superb walking, boating and scenic viewpoints.
The town is dominated by Chepstow Castle, one of the earliest Norman stone strongholds, and a 19th‑century railway bridge by Isambard Kingdom Brunel marks its industrial-age links. Once a busy port, Chepstow today mixes tourism, a lively market-town community and events at Chepstow Racecourse, with many residents commuting to nearby cities such as Bristol and Cardiff.
