Ashurst and Colbury sit on the western edge of the New Forest in Hampshire, close to the boundary with Southampton. The area mixes heathland, ancient woodland and small-scale farmland; it’s a popular base for walkers, riders and cyclists, and is well served by Ashurst New Forest railway station, bringing both day-trippers and commuters within easy reach of the forest and the city.
Historically the villages grew from timber, commoning and agricultural traditions, with the railway encouraging modest growth in the 19th century. Today the local economy blends small businesses, tourism linked to the New Forest and commuting to nearby urban centres, while a strong community spirit is evident in village events, conservation activity and the continuing practice of traditional land management.
