Stanmore is a suburban ward in the London Borough of Harrow on the northern fringe of Greater London. It sits beside expanses of open space such as Stanmore Common and Stanmore Country Park and is served by the Jubilee line at Stanmore tube station, making it a convenient commuter base for Central London.
Historically the area grew from a village in the old county of Middlesex and is best known for Bentley Priory, the wartime RAF Fighter Command headquarters now preserved as a heritage site. The neighbourhood mixes Victorian and interwar housing with more recent developments, local shops, schools and sports facilities, giving it a generally residential, family-oriented character with a quieter feel than inner-London districts.
