Upminster is a suburban ward in the London Borough of Havering in east London, historically part of Essex until the creation of Greater London in 1965. It sits on well-connected transport routes - with the Underground District line and c2c services nearby - and combines a tidy high street of independent shops and cafes with mainly residential streets and good links to the M25 and A127.
The area is notable for local landmarks such as the restored Upminster Windmill and historic churches, and for easy access to green spaces including the marshes to the south; economically it leans residential and commuter-led, with a strong sense of local community, active conservation areas and generally higher rates of home ownership than inner-London wards.
