Weston under Penyard is a quiet, rural parish on the eastern edge of Herefordshire, sitting beneath the wooded slopes of Penyard Hill and close to the boundary with the Forest of Dean and the River Wye. The area is noted for its sandstone outcrops around Penyard Rocks, which attract walkers and rock climbers, and for the patchwork of mixed farms, hedgerows and small woodlands that characterise the landscape.
Locally the community centres on the village, church, village hall and pub, with a history stretching back to medieval manorial patterns; many traditional cottages and a few larger country houses hint at that past. The economy remains largely agricultural, though a number of residents commute to nearby towns such as Ross-on-Wye, Hereford or Gloucester, and the parish retains a close-knit, village atmosphere prized by visitors and locals alike.
