Sawbridgeworth is a small Hertfordshire town and civil parish in the district of East Hertfordshire, Hertfordshire, England, set in the attractive low-lying meanders of the River Stort. Its riverside setting, the adjacent Stort Navigation and network of footpaths make it a popular spot for riverside walks, while good rail links to London Liverpool Street and road links via the M11 – plus proximity to Stansted Airport – have helped it become a commuter hub between Harlow and Bishop's Stortford.
The town has medieval roots and a compact historic centre with several older buildings and a parish church, and a lively community feel with independent shops, clubs and events that reflect local civic pride. Economically it mixes local trades and services with a commuter population, and conservation areas and riverside green spaces give it a semi-rural character despite the transport links to bigger towns and London.
