Barkway is a small village and civil parish in North Hertfordshire, in the county of Hertfordshire, England, sitting close to the Cambridgeshire border and just a few miles from Royston. Set on the chalk uplands of the area, it lies near ancient trackways such as the Icknield Way and enjoys pleasant views over the surrounding arable countryside.
Locally the village is centred on a medieval church and a traditional green, with a pub, village hall and active clubs (including cricket) that sustain a strong community life. Historically agricultural, Barkway now mixes farming with a number of residents who commute to Cambridge and London via nearby road and rail links, while retaining a notably rural, historic character.
