Three Rivers is a local government district in Hertfordshire, England, named for the River Chess, River Colne and River Gade that thread through it. The council is based in Rickmansworth and the district includes large swathes of green belt and waterway - part of the Colne Valley Regional Park, sections of the Grand Union Canal and fringes of the Chiltern Hills - so it’s known for chalk streams, commons and well‑used walking routes.
The area combines suburban commuter towns with village communities: good rail and Underground links into London make it a popular commuter belt, while local industry includes the film complex at Leavesden (home to Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden). Historic villages such as Chorleywood and Sarratt, numerous conservation areas and an active local arts and community scene give the district a mix of rural character and modern economic ties. Formed in 1974, it remains a largely affluent and green part of the home counties with a strong local identity.
