Niton sits on the southern edge of the Isle of Wight in England, tucked beneath St Catherine's Down and looking out over the English Channel towards St Catherine's Point, the island's southernmost headland. The ridge above the village is marked by the lonely ruin of St Catherine's Oratory (often called the Pepperpot) and the area’s chalk cliffs and landslip-created Undercliff give the coastline its dramatic, sheltered microclimate.
Historically a small farming and fishing community with its share of smuggling stories, Niton today mixes local services and housing with a steady flow of visitors who come for coastal walks, birdwatching and the mild, plant-friendly climate that also benefits nearby Ventnor and the Ventnor Botanic Garden. The village’s position on the Isle of Wight Coastal Path and its scenic outlook keep it quietly popular as a place to live and to explore.
