Old Town is the small, historic settlement on St Mary's, the largest of the Isles of Scilly, sitting beside a sheltered bay and a compact quay. It retains a tucked-away feel of narrow lanes and granite cottages, with immediate access to coastal scenery and seabird-rich shores that make it a popular spot for quieter walks and boat landings.
As one of the island's older centres it has a strong maritime heritage - fishing, piloting and small boat maintenance have long shaped local life - and its past is echoed by nearby ruins such as Harry's Walls. Today Old Town functions as a low-key alternative to Hugh Town, with a handful of B&Bs, cafes and community services serving both residents and visitors while tourism and small-scale local enterprise underpin the economy.
