Tresco is the civil parish covering the island of the same name in the Isles of Scilly, known for its small permanent community and the twin settlements of New Grimsby and Old Grimsby. It is the archipelago’s second largest island and is linked to St Marys by boat and helicopter; the economy is dominated by tourism, estate agriculture and seasonal work run largely through the long‑standing Tresco Estate.
Geographically the island mixes windswept granite coastlines, sheltered beaches and valuable sub‑tropical gardens: the celebrated Tresco Abbey Garden, created in the 19th century, grows exotic plants thanks to the mild climate. Tresco also has a rich history from prehistoric sites and abbey ruins to 19th‑century estate development, and is important for seabirds and tranquillity, giving a distinctive blend of natural, cultural and historic interest.
