Mildmay is an inner‑London ward on the north‑eastern edge of the London Borough of Islington, sitting beside the borough boundary with Hackney. It occupies a mixed urban landscape of Victorian terraces, interwar and post‑war housing blocks and pockets of newer development; locally recognisable features include Mildmay Park and its proximity to green squares and high streets such as Newington Green.
The area has a strong community feel with a diverse population and a lively small‑business and creative scene, while also carrying traces of 19th‑century social and religious philanthropy associated with the Mildmay name. Like much of inner London it has experienced notable gentrification and rising housing costs alongside active grassroots groups and local services that reflect a mix of long‑standing residents and newer arrivals from nearby hubs such as Dalston and Stoke Newington.
