Smarden is a lively village set in the rolling farmland of the Kentish Weald, in the district of Ashford, Kent, England. It has a distinctly historic feel thanks to a concentration of timber‑framed and weatherboarded houses and a medieval parish church, and much of the settlement sits within a conservation area that preserves its rural character.
Historically rooted in agriculture and hop growing, the local economy now mixes farming with small independent businesses and a number of residents who commute to nearby towns. Community life is strong: the village supports clubs, a village hall, pubs and regular events that celebrate local crafts and countryside traditions.
