Tankerton is an electoral ward on the northern fringe of the city of Canterbury in Kent, England. It includes the coastal strip around Tankerton Slopes, known for its grassy promenade, rows of colourful beach huts, shingle beach and exposed mudflats on the Thames Estuary that attract walkers, birdwatchers and families at low tide.
The ward is mainly residential - a mix of Victorian and Edwardian villas, post‑war housing and newer developments - served by local shops and cafés, with many residents commuting to nearby Whitstable and Canterbury. Its historic growth as a seaside suburb means tourism and community events play a role in the local economy alongside everyday services and small businesses.
