Sandwich is a small historic town and civil parish in the district of Dover, county of Kent, England. Once one of the medieval Cinque Ports, it sits on the River Stour and retains a compact core of timber-framed houses, narrow streets and a preserved quay after the harbour silted up; the family title Earl of Sandwich is linked to the town and famously lent its name to the sandwich.
Nearby Sandwich Bay and the Sandwich Bay National Nature Reserve are important for birds and offer dunes and beaches, while the championship links of Royal St George's Golf Club bring visitors for major tournaments. Today the local economy leans on tourism, agriculture and small businesses, with independent shops, regular markets and community events giving the place a relaxed, small‑town feel.
