Deal sits on the Kent coast in the district of Dover, Kent, England, looking out over the English Channel. A historic Cinque Port and naval anchorage, the town still shows its maritime past in a long shingle seafront, the Tudor-era Deal Castle and a string of Martello towers; nearby hazards such as the Goodwin Sands helped make this stretch of coast strategically important for centuries.
Today Deal mixes tourism, antiques and independent shops with a lively arts scene and cafés, alongside working fishermen and commuters who travel to London or Dover by rail. Conservation of historic terraces and growing cultural events have helped regenerate the seafront while keeping the town’s distinctive seafaring character.
