Lower Halstow is a small riverside village in the borough of Swale in Kent, England, sitting on the southern bank of the tidal channel called the Swale that separates the mainland from the Isle of Sheppey. The surrounding low-lying marshes, creeks and mudflats give it a distinctly waterside character and attract a variety of wading birds and wildfowl, making the landscape important for wildlife and appealing for walkers and birdwatchers.
Historically the village’s life was tied to maritime trades and marshland farming - small-scale fishing, oystering and boat-related work - though today it is largely residential with many people commuting to nearby Sittingbourne and the Medway towns. It retains a strong local identity centred on its historic parish church (with early medieval origins and interesting stonework), a handful of village amenities and occasional community events that reflect its rural, coastal heritage.
