Bailrigg is a low, rolling hill and suburban area to the south‑east of Lancaster in Lancashire, most widely known as the home of Lancaster University. The campus sits in extensive parkland with lakes and sports facilities, and from the higher ground there are pleasant views towards Morecambe Bay and the Lune Valley, with the Forest of Bowland visible on clearer days.
Historically agricultural until the university was established in the 1960s, Bailrigg has since become an important local employer and cultural hub: the student population shapes housing, night‑time economy and arts and sports activities, while university research and an adjacent innovation focus contribute to the wider regional economy. The area retains a semi‑rural feel despite ongoing development and strong links with the city of Lancaster.
