Whitworth is a small town and civil parish in the borough of Rossendale, Lancashire, in north‑west England, sitting in a steep valley carved by the River Spodden. The settlement climbs from the wooded valley floor up onto surrounding moorland of the Pennines, giving a mix of stone terraces and later housing with easy access to open countryside and nearby market towns such as Rawtenstall and Rochdale.
Historically Whitworth grew with the 19th‑century cotton and textile industries and you can still see former mill buildings and narrow lanes from that era, though many have been repurposed for housing or small businesses. The area around Healey Dell is notable for a wooded gorge, waterfalls and an old railway viaduct, popular with walkers, while the town today functions as a close‑knit community with local shops, light industry and a reputation as a pleasant base for commuters and outdoor enthusiasts.
