The area of Britannia & Lee Mill sits on the eastern side of the borough of Rossendale in Lancashire, England, occupying a stretch of valley and hillside on the fringe of the Pennines. It comprises a mix of stone terraces and former mill buildings clustered around small local shops and community facilities, with moorland and reservoirs a short distance away and easy commuting links towards Manchester and neighbouring towns such as Bacup and Haslingden.
Like much of Rossendale the locality wears its industrial past - textile mills and workers’ cottages - alongside a growing emphasis on services, light industry and outdoor leisure; walking and cycling are popular thanks to the surrounding valleys. That contrast between industrial heritage and open moorland gives the place a distinctive character and a strong local community identity.
