Alwoodley is a leafy, largely residential ward to the north of Leeds, sitting where suburban streets meet the green belt. The area still benefits from easy access to open countryside, with features such as Eccup Reservoir and the nearby estate of Harewood House giving it a semi-rural feel despite being a short commute from the city centre.
Historically a rural parish that suburbanised through the 20th century, Alwoodley is known for its large, often period, homes, good local schools and a prosperous, professional population. It also hosts well-regarded sporting facilities such as Alwoodley Golf Club, a notable local Jewish community with associated synagogues and amenities, and a mix of independent shops and cafés, which together give the area a quietly affluent, community-oriented character.
