Set in a rural landscape a few miles north of Coalville and within easy reach of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, the village is surrounded by farmland and pockets of woodland and sits close to tree‑planting and landscape recovery projects associated with the National Forest.
The settlement has long roots, with medieval origins reflected in its parish church and traditional cottages, and its twentieth‑century life was influenced by nearby coal mining and quarrying.
