Sutton Coldfield is a civil parish in the north-east of the City of Birmingham, historically known as the Royal Town after a charter granted in 1528. It is notable geographically for Sutton Park, a vast expanse of woodland, heath and lakes covering around 2,400 acres and regarded as one of the largest urban parks in Europe, which gives the parish a strong suburban‑rural feel within the city region.
The area combines a well‑served town centre and commuter rail links into Birmingham with a reputation for relatively high incomes, good schools such as Bishop Vesey's Grammar School, and a number of conservation areas and Victorian and Georgian villas. Local life mixes independent shops and national retailers, outdoor recreation in the park, and a civic identity reinforced by the parish and the Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council.
