Nuneaton is the largest town in the borough of Nuneaton and Bedworth, sitting in the north of Warwickshire, England. It occupies a Midland setting on the River Anker and benefits from good road and rail links to Coventry and Birmingham. The town’s name recalls a 12th-century nunnery and it grew through market trade, ribbon and textile industries and nearby coal mining before moving towards light industry, distribution and retail in the 20th century.
Culture and history are prominent: the novelist George Eliot drew on the people and places around Nuneaton, including the Arbury area, and the town retains a museum, arts venues and community events alongside a strong local sports scene. Contemporary social life reflects a mix of suburban neighbourhoods and former industrial communities, with a service and logistics economy now significant to the area.
