Kirton is a large fenland village and civil parish just outside Boston in south Lincolnshire, set on very flat, fertile ground shaped by centuries of drainage and embankment work. The surrounding landscape is typical of The Fens - wide skies, straight drainage channels and rich arable fields - which makes agriculture (cereals, vegetables and horticulture) an important part of the local economy and character.
Despite its rural setting, Kirton has a lively community life centred on village halls, clubs and a few traditional pubs, and retains a number of historic buildings that hint at a long agricultural past and the 17th‑century fen improvements. Its location close to coastal marshes and nature reserves around The Wash gives easy access to notable birdlife and salt‑marsh landscapes, while many residents commute into nearby Boston for work and services.
