Melton Mowbray is the historic market town at the heart of the borough of Melton in Leicestershire, England. It sits on the small River Eye amid the rolling farmland of the East Midlands, close to the attractive hills and estates of the Vale of Belvoir, and has a compact centre of Georgian and Victorian streets that still reflect its coaching‑town and rural trading past.
Despite its modest size the town punches above its weight culturally and economically: it is world‑famous for its traditional pork pies (protected by geographical designation) and for being at the heart of England’s Stilton cheese country, so food and agricultural industries, tourism and rural pursuits play a big role. There’s a long history of hunting and equestrian activity in the area and a continuing market and food‑festival scene, while local shops and historic buildings keep the town’s strong sense of place.
