Gainsborough is a historic market town in the district of West Lindsey, Lincolnshire, England, sitting on the west bank of the River Trent. It grew up as an inland port and trading centre, and reminders of that medieval and Tudor past survive - most notably Gainsborough Old Hall, one of the best-preserved timber-framed manor houses in the region.
Over the centuries the town developed an industrial edge with milling, engineering and distribution shaping its economy; today it combines a traditional market-town feel with local cultural venues, a loyal non-league football following around Gainsborough Trinity, and ongoing regeneration projects. Its position between Lincoln and Doncaster gives reasonable links to larger centres while keeping a strong local community identity.
