Brough and neighbouring Elloughton sit in the western edge of the East Riding of Yorkshire close to the north bank of the Humber Estuary, about a short drive from Hull and with the rolling Yorkshire Wolds not far to the north. Brough is notable for its long history - the site of the Roman town of Petuaria - and for a 20th-century association with aircraft manufacturing and an aerodrome that helped shape the local economy and identity.
Today the two villages form the civil parish of Elloughton-cum-Brough and combine a villagey feel with suburban growth: commuter links to nearby towns, local shops, schools and community groups are balanced by occasional heritage displays and green spaces. The area’s mix of historic interest, industrial heritage and proximity to the Humber makes it quietly distinctive within the surrounding rural landscape.
