Goole

Goole is a river port town in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, sitting where the River Ouse and the inland navigation system meet the tidal reach of the Humber. Conceived as a purpose-built inland port in the early 19th century (the docks opened in 1826), it remains one of the country's principal inland ports, with a network of canals and rail links that have long connected it to national and international trade routes.

Today Goole combines industrial and logistics activity - docks, warehouses and an industrial estate handling timber, steel, bulk goods and containers - with a compact town centre of red-brick terraces, markets and a strong maritime identity preserved in the local museum. The surrounding Humber estuary and nearby reserves such as Blacktoft Sands give the area notable birdlife, and the town retains a close-knit working-community feel alongside ongoing regeneration and diversification of its economy.
