The village and ward of Ashill sits in the largely rural district of Breckland in Norfolk, England. It occupies the characteristic Breckland landscape – a patchwork of arable farmland, pockets of heath and woodland – and retains a compact historic core with a parish church, a village pub and a village hall that act as focal points for community life.
Economically the ward remains strongly influenced by agriculture, although many residents commute to larger towns for work. Socially and culturally it has an active local scene of clubs, annual events and conservation initiatives, and the area’s older buildings and surrounding countryside give a tangible sense of the locality’s long history.
