Lynford is a very small, rural parish in the Breckland district of Norfolk, England, set amid mixed farmland, pine plantations and pockets of heath that form part of the landscape around Thetford Forest. The settlement’s focal point is the historic Lynford Hall, a large country-house estate whose grounds and lakes give the area a distinctly private, parkland character despite being close to the county border and larger market towns.
The parish is sparsely populated and dominated economically by agriculture, forestry and estate-related activities, with a modest amount of tourism around country-house accommodation, walking and wildlife watching. It also has a particular archaeological interest: Lynford Quarry is a notable Late Pleistocene site where remains and artefacts have shed light on prehistoric fauna and human activity in the region, while day-to-day services are generally accessed in nearby Thetford and Brandon.
