Halvergate is a small village and civil parish in the district of Broadland, Norfolk, England, set amid the open salt and freshwater grazing marshes between the River Bure and the River Yare. The surrounding Halvergate Marshes form part of The Broads landscape, with a patchwork of dykes, windpumps and reedbeds that make the area important for wetland birdlife and distinctive lowland scenery.
Historically shaped by drainage and grazing, the settlement retains a strong agricultural character while conservation and quiet tourism now play a growing role in the local economy. The parish’s combination of historic marsh-management features, wildlife interest and simple rural community life gives it a character very different from Norfolk’s urban centres.
