Hemsby is a small coastal village on the North Sea coast in the borough of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. It’s best known for its long sandy beach, dunes and a string of caravan parks and holiday camps that make tourism the mainstay of the local economy, giving the village a distinctly seasonal character with traditional seaside amusements, cafés and pubs alongside long‑standing local community life.
The village also has a more sobering side: chronic coastal erosion has shaped recent history and led to visible sea defences such as groynes and rock armour. The surrounding marshes and dunes are good for birdwatching and wildlife, and Hemsby sits between other coastal settlements such as Winterton and Caister-on-Sea, remaining a blend of a historic fishing place turned holiday resort with continuing local resilience and community events.
