Sidestrand is a tiny coastal parish on the edge of the North Norfolk coast in Norfolk, perched above a stretch of dramatic chalk and glacial cliffs that look out across the North Sea. The shoreline and clifftop footpaths are part of the rolling landscape of the Norfolk Coast and attract walkers and birdwatchers; erosion has long shaped the coastline here, giving the area a rugged, changeable character and striking sea views a few miles east of Cromer.
Settlement is sparse and largely rural, with agriculture and small‑scale tourism providing the local economy and a small, close‑knit community making up village life. The area has a Victorian cultural cachet through the late‑19th‑century “Poppyland” craze, and remains valued for its quiet charms, historic cottages and the sense of being slightly off the beaten track compared with Norfolk’s busier seaside towns.
