Cromer is a compact Victorian seaside town on the north Norfolk coast, in North Norfolk, Norfolk, England. It perches above sandy beaches and colourful cliffs, centred on the iconic Cromer Pier and its Pavilion Theatre, and looks out over the ecologically important Cromer Shoal Chalk Beds, one of the UK’s largest chalk reefs.
The town has a long seaside and fishing heritage - tourism, hospitality and crab fishing remain central to the local economy - and a strong lifeboat tradition remembered in the story of Henry Blogg and the RNLI station. Cromer retains a cosy, slightly old-fashioned holiday feel thanks to its promenade, independent shops and local festivals, and is often celebrated in late‑Victorian literature as part of “Poppyland”.
