The village and civil parish of Appleton Roebuck sits in rural North Yorkshire, a few miles south‑west of York on the edge of the Vale of York. It occupies a compact historic core set among arable fields and hedgerows, with a number of older stone houses and farm buildings that give the settlement a recognisably conservation‑minded character.
Traditionally an agricultural community, the local economy still revolves around farming though many residents now commute to York and nearby market towns such as Tadcaster. Social life centres on a village hall, pub and local societies that run fetes and community events, and the place retains visible links to the landed estates and rural trades that shaped it over centuries.
