Cayton is a small village and civil parish on the east coast of North Yorkshire, a few miles south of Scarborough. The parish stretches down to Cayton Bay, a wide sweep of sandy beach backed by cliffs that form part of the dramatic Yorkshire Coast; the shoreline draws walkers, fossil hunters and surfers and is also notable for ongoing coastal erosion and conservation efforts.
The settlement has a compact, historic core with a parish church and a mix of older houses and more modern developments. Locally the economy blends agriculture with tourism - holiday parks and self-catering accommodation are common - while many residents commute into nearby towns. Community life is centred on village groups and events, and the parish combines a rural feel with easy access to the amenities of the Scarborough area.
