Folkton is a small rural parish in North Yorkshire, a few miles inland from the Yorkshire Coast between Filey and Scarborough. It sits on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, with rolling chalk countryside and farmland that make it popular with walkers and birdwatchers and give the area a distinctly pastoral character.
The local economy is largely agricultural and residential, with a small, close‑knit community and easy access to coastal attractions. It also has a notable place in prehistory: the Neolithic carved chalk cylinders known as the Folkton Drums, found in a nearby burial mound and now held in the British Museum, have made the parish of interest to archaeologists and visitors intrigued by ancient Britain.
