Grinton is a small rural parish in Swaledale, within North Yorkshire, sited where the valley narrows and the River Swale is crossed by a well-known stone bridge. The surrounding drystone walls, sheep pastures and gritstone fells make it a popular base for walkers, with routes such as the Pennine Way and many local paths providing easy access to the upper dales.
The community is centred on its historic parish church, St Andrew's Church, often dubbed the "Cathedral of the Dales", and a handful of farms and cottages; agriculture, especially sheep farming, remains important while tourism and outdoor recreation sustain local services. There are also traces of the dales' lead-mining past nearby, and the parish retains a close-knit, village feel with occasional events that draw both residents and visitors.
