Map of the UK

Haverah Park is a very small, sparsely populated area in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, set among heather moor, drystone walls and rolling dales a few miles west of Harrogate. The landscape is dominated by upland grazing and managed moor, so the local economy is largely agricultural with some grouse-moor management and low-key rural tourism; it’s valued more for walking, wildlife and tranquillity than for shops or services.

The name hints at medieval origins as a parkland or hunting ground, and the area has a quirky modern footnote too: in the late 20th century it hosted the Haverah Park cosmic-ray array operated by university scientists, an unusual piece of scientific history for such a remote spot. Socially it remains a dispersed, close-knit rural community with scattered farms rather than a conventional village.
