Fairburn is a small village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, sitting close to the county boundary with West Yorkshire and within easy reach of towns such as Wakefield, Pontefract and Selby. It occupies low-lying agricultural countryside and is best known for the nearby wetland complex Fairburn Ings, a nature reserve of flooded gravel pits, reedbeds and open water that attracts walkers and birdwatchers.
The settlement retains a rural character with historic lanes and village amenities, while many residents commute to larger centres for work. Fairburn Ings has brought conservation interest and recreational visitors to the area, helping to balance village life with easy access to the employment and cultural centres of Leeds and Doncaster.
