Stonebeck Up is a small, upland civil parish tucked into Nidderdale in North Yorkshire, within the Nidderdale AONB and the administrative area of Harrogate. The landscape is characteristically rugged: patchwork drystone walls, heather moorland and steep dales, with watercourses feeding into Gouthwaite Reservoir and a network of rights of way that make it popular with walkers and birdwatchers.
Economically and socially it remains a largely agricultural place, with scattered farms, sheep rearing and some grouse moors alongside a modest visitor economy. The area has long historical roots, with land patterns and boundaries that reflect medieval monastic estates such as Fountains Abbey, and today retains a quiet, close‑knit rural character prized for its sense of remoteness and wildlife.
