Craster is a small coastal village and parish on the north-east coast of Northumberland, set where rugged headlands fall to pebble bays and a compact stone harbour. It lies within the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a popular stop for walkers on the coastal path, offering striking sea views and a glimpse towards Dunstanburgh Castle to the south.
Once a working fishing community, the village is best known for its traditional smoked herring or "Craster kippers", with a few smokehouses still operating alongside a handful of pubs and visitor facilities. Historic features such as Craster Tower and the surviving fishing cottages speak to a long coastal past, while today the local economy leans heavily on tourism, walking, bird- and seal-watching and the quiet rhythms of village life.
