Clifton is a sizeable suburb to the south of Nottingham, set close to the floodplain of the River Trent and linked to the city by the A52 and the landmark Clifton Bridge. It contains an older village core - often called Clifton Village - with a church and green, alongside a much larger mid-20th-century housing area sometimes referred to as the Clifton Estate, plus retail and light-industrial parks that serve the local population and commuters.
Historically a separate village absorbed as the city expanded, Clifton now combines a strong local identity with a mixed social and economic profile: pockets of post‑war housing and later developments sit alongside independent shops, community groups and sports clubs. The area has seen ongoing regeneration and benefits from straightforward road and bus links into central Nottingham, making it a practical base for people working in the city while retaining a semi‑rural feel in parts near the river.
