Cottam is a small village and civil parish in the district of Bassetlaw, in rural Nottinghamshire, England. It sits amid gently rolling farmland a short distance from the market town of Retford, and has the compact feel of a traditional English village with a modest number of historic cottages and lanes rather than any large centre of commerce.
What has marked Cottam out in recent decades is the nearby Cottam Power Station, a prominent industrial landmark that shaped local employment and the landscape before its decommissioning and partial demolition. Today the area remains largely agricultural and residential, with a quiet, close‑knit community and good access to country walks and the broader amenities of north Nottinghamshire.
