The small civil parish of Marnham sits in the district of Bassetlaw in Nottinghamshire, England, and comprises the neighbouring villages of High Marnham and Low Marnham on the east bank of the River Trent. It has a distinctly rural character of arable fields, floodplain meadows and riverside habitats, with limited housing and a low population that gives it a peaceful, tucked-away feel.
Locally notable is Marnham Hall, the old manor linked to the Cartwright family and the birthplace of the 18th‑century reformer John Cartwright, and the parish retains several listed buildings and an historic church. In the 20th century the footprint of the former power station at High Marnham altered the local economy and skyline, but today agriculture, countryside conservation and links to nearby towns such as Newark-on-Trent shape everyday life.
